IS HEALTH INSURANCE BREAKING THE BANK?

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) also known as Obamacare, certainly changed the landscape when it comes to health insurance.  For many, the plans that are available on the marketplace (healthcare.gov) have been very helpful to those qualifying for significant subsidies.  However, for people that do not qualify for the subsidies, the marketplace plans are very costly.

Originally, the ACA required everyone to have ACA compliant health insurance; or pay a hefty penalty. This put many in a difficult financial position.  That requirement is no longer in place and we are free to decide for ourselves what we want.

Unfortunately, because of that requirement, the insurance companies had to narrow down what they offered to individuals.  What is now available can still be cost prohibitive as well as short term.  There is another option to consider.  Christian Ministries Health Sharing Plans have been around since the 1980’s.  They operate on the biblical premise that Christians pool their resources to help each other.  There are several companies that offer them.  Aliera Health has designed several plans that operate very much like insurance you might be used to.  Members do not have to file their own in-network claims.  They utilize a large national network of providers.  You pay your monthly contribution and they handle the rest for you.  One of the great things about their plans is that they have a full suite of preventive services and there is little to no cost for these services.  They focus on wellness and provide the benefits to support it.  Their pricing is typically 30%-40% less than unsubsidized market place plans.  Prices are as low as $69 per month.  Christian Ministries Health Sharing Plans are non profit which allows them to charge much less.

By following the link below, you can see what Aliera Health has to offer.  The top two lines are similar to group health insurance and the rest are plans designed to meet more specific needs.  Most plans can also be quoted for employer groups.
